Colleen Phelps is the host and producer of Nashville Public Radio's backstage pass to classical music: the acclaimed podcast Classically Speaking. She developed the station's Student Composer Fellowship and Ambassador Program, providing support to eight young composers in Nashville.

She was the host of Live in Studio C, a weekly live music broadcast, through August 2020. Her video series Listen With Me provided imagination-friendly classical music content for young children and music teachers during the spring of 2020, as local schools finished their year remotely.

 

Colleen is an active performer of solo percussion and vocal music, as well as chamber music. Her upcoming debut album, The Animal Ambassador Album, features new works for marimba dedicated to young zoo animals all over the USA. She was also a featured performer on Cristina Spinei's album Music for Dance, released by Toccata Classics. With the Cincinnati Soundbox concerto project Colleen premiered "On A Paper Nautilus" a concerto for percussion by Rachel C. Walker. 

 

As the founder of "Best of Nashville" (Nashville Scene, 2018) chamber music ensemble Sound Riot, Colleen produced two seasons of premieres and experimental playing. The ensemble was particularly known for its annual Galentine's Day concert, featuring music by 21st century women. Colleen is also a founding member of professional chamber choir Vocal Arts Nashville.

Colleen is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, where she earned degrees in Music Performance, Music Education, and Conducting. She plays a Majestic Reflection marimba, and uses Innovative Percussion mallets. She and her husband Matt live in Nashville, TN with their son Noah and dog Gigi.
